The primary role of a Private Duty Nurse is to render skilled nursing care. This is a high level of medical care that must be provided by licensed health professionals, such as registered nurses (RNs).
Skilled Nursing Care can be provided over short-term rehabilitation from an illness or injury, or they may be required for patients who need a long-term high level of care on a frequent or constant basis due to a chronic medical condition.
Skilled Nursing Care is provided in any setting for any duration and must be ordered by a doctor to be covered by Medicare, Medicaid, the VA, or private health insurance.
